In 2022 the Theatro space in Verano Brianza was enriched with an important novelty: The Build gallery, a place to experiment with solutions capable of integrating design, technology and performance by discovering the mock-ups created by Theatro and its partners. Mock-ups are custom solutions, which integrate shell products and more, developed through calculations, research, continuous comparisons with architects, engineers, partner companies.
The prototypes of The Build gallery are the concrete evidence of the experiments designed to meet specific and complex needs, a tangible example of the continuous research and development carried out by Theatro.

Beautiful or rather, scandalously beautiful architecture.
Great human interest stories within a flood of ideas, people, techniques and intelligence
are woven together in the Children’s Surgical Hospital project in Entebbe. A “polyphonic work”, that of the Children’s Surgical Hospital in Entebbe, the centre of excellence for emergency paediatric surgery in Uganda, designed by RPBW – Renzo Piano Building Workshop, TAMassociati and Emergency. A virtuous example of good architecture and co-design that brings together ethics and aesthetics, and the first international visibility project with the active participation of the network of companies that make up Theatro. The hospital, which is set in large tree-filled gardens, is ready to provide free treatment to children needing surgery from all over Africa. The building is constructed in rammed earth, a traditional technique using raw earth which helps to guarantee thermal inertia, able to maintain constant temperatures and moisture levels. For the Ugandan hospital project, it was essential to form an effective and efficient operational team. Theatro was part of this team, coordinating the skills of some of its partner companies, able to develop custom solutions and working to simplify the project without losing any of the quality or performance. Six firms with six specific areas of expertise, working together under the coordination of Theatro, made it possible to complete a project that designers and the principle have called a “polyphonic work”, in which ethics and aesthetics come together with the shared aim of “simplifying without compromising on the quality of the end result”. The synergy between stakeholders in the project, who share expertise and work in coordination towards the same result, under the direction of Theatro, is an example of how collaboration brings the affirmation of quality architecture into being.
Milan Design Week 2022
Atypical because it was scheduled in June, instead of the normal month of April, and heartfelt because it was the first post-Covid, Milan Design Week 2022 lived up to all the expectations of operators, professionals and onlookers. Theatro’s partner companies were among the co-protagonists, in the halls of the fair and the bustling streets of the city.
The second curator of Insiders: Riccardo Crenna
Here’s the pivotal point: digital permeates everything and only when its leverage pivots on corporate (or professional in the case of an individual) DNA can it bear fruit.
In the following three monthly editions of Insiders, Riccardo Crenna – who, with Simona Flacco, is co-founder of Simple Flair and Riviera and creative director of the new furnishing brand Vero – has explored the different nuances of the word digital. How can a designer benefit from digital? Crenna provided Theatro readers with opinions, suggestions, tips on digital and communication for the design project world.
The definition of digital mindset is followed by a focus on tools, content, and strategies and Instagram, a social media that exemplifies the typical application of a classic digital growth and positioning strategy.
Design2Curtain
Integrated design at the service of good architecture: these are the cornerstones shared by Florim and Schüco Italia. Leading brands in their respective fields – building envelope and ceramic surfaces – the two companies engaged in a dialogue at Theatro that led them to develop an integrated project together. Design2Curtain is an aluminium framed façade solution, characterised by fixed and openable concealed elements, which allows glass and porcelain stoneware slabs to be placed side by side.
Theatro’s solutions for the Grand Hotel Victoria Concept & Spa.
On the shores of Lake Como, the historic building of the Grand Hotel Victoria Concept & Spa in Menaggio (Como) has undergone large-scale expansion and renovation works, carried out with the integrated consulting of Theatro placed at the service of the planning abilities of Studio Pè Architettura & Design to try out cutting-edge solutions in terms of wellness, comfort, and environmental quality. Preserving and making the most of the splendid historic architectural features, the intervention by Studio Pè Architettura & Design is based around ensuring seamless continuity between old and new, achieved through careful, well-thought out choices in terms of design, colour, and materials.
Franco Pè worked with Theatro and its new way of making architecture, based on synergy, experimentation and continued dialogue, and Theatro made expertise available from some of its own partner companies: AGC, ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, Resstende, Schüco Italia, Starpool and Thema. Once again the firms revealed themselves to be proactive, reliable partners, meeting the challenges offered by the project. So much so that the clients – R Collection Hotels, a Rocchi family hotel group – allowed plenty of freedom in terms of design and the possibility to try out bold, innovative solutions with a great aesthetic and performance impact.
The first curator of Insiders: Federica Sala
Today we are just at the beginning of a new artistic era, that of digital art, which is finally beginning to be told and translated into practice, thus becoming more comprehensible in its own way, and expanding to a wider audience.
The first three editions of Insiders were inspired by Federica Sala, an independent curator and design advisor who works with museum institutions, private foundations, historical archives, companies, designers, and magazines to conceive, develop and produce content related to the world of art and design.
The first curator shared some thoughts on the dichotomy between art and science, the development of NFT in art and creative fields, and the close connection between tourism and architecture.
Theatro as a place for experimentation.
The new mock up area has been officially inaugurated: a space in which ideas take shape, thanks to the ability to create, test and touch samples and design ideas. The Backstage space completes Theatro’s identity. Conceived from the beginning as a creative laboratory inspired by a shared design, it is also a place in which to experiment and innovate products and solutions.
Insiders, in-depth topics for the Theatro community.
Design culture speaks several languages. Theatro has chosen some influential voices for guided explorations into the contemporary. Insiders is a monthly newsletter full of exclusive content, a collection of opinions, inspirations, and tips from expert, unexpected and curious voices. The various curators, selected from the fields of communication, digital, photography and design, deploy stimuli, advice and energy from their privileged point of view. What Theatro conveys is a critical interpretation with a cultural slant, free from commercial dynamics, and innovative in its timelessness, putting people at the centre.
Behind the scenes of Theatro.
What lies behind Theatro’s stage? Innovation, expertise, and a willingness to experiment and improve, together.
